I don't know why, but I'm having a heck of a time with gravity today. I keep dropping stuff. So I guess I'll not carry to much electronic stuff around all day.
Like this little goodie! Last year I tried to do all my emails and posts at AU on my iPod. Ouch. But carting a laptop around all day is not a great answer, and I'm just not impressed with the iPad. So I picked up a new Netbook, the HP Mini. It runs a 1.65 GHz Atom 645, with 1G RAM and a 250drive. Nearly a full-size screen, a proper keyboard, and it runs all my REAL windoze apps except AutoCAD. (It might, but has Windoze 7 Starter for now.) With USB ports, I can hook up a prtable drive or my camera. Or the camera's memory card can just pop into the media slot. It's light enough to carry around, especially in the neat little case Pillow made for me from an old pair of jeans - complete with pocket!
So, AU is so close now you can smell it. Not really, that's the carp they spray in the air at the casino! Yup, I'm there, getting in a couple days of fun before the show, and so far getting out dollars. Once AU starts you don't really have time to gamble.
The Mandalay bay is doing us well again - better even - as last year. In-room WIFI is in the new $15 "Resort Fee" that everybody in Vegas decided to charge us out-of-towners, but the MB is comping us the fee. All us nerd should be a lot less grumpy with our full complement of web-fixes each day.
AU tip: The MB puts a long, thin, pillow on your bed. Goofy to lie your head on, but it is the PERFECT size to block out the gap under the door to the hallway. Cut down the noise AND light entering your room at 3am.
Today the crowd starts to arrive. Blads & the Saint should show soon, Jeff later, and the Sunday a flood. The AU area will be taking shape, too, with registration and WIFI outside the room. That means the Mini goes in my carry-bag, the "cheap, f---ing bag" from AU2006 that has been my favorite because it is just a simple murse.
Well, time to go out there and see if those dollars are still unidirectional. Later...
